#1 Statesmen

Today we played against wake tech community college. The game was an alumni game, which means players from the past came to see this years basketball players. At the game they announced who was who and handed out awards. I was surprised to see how old they players were, from my understanding this year was the first time having a basketball team. Well I was wrong, the statesmen have been around for years. Today's game was intense, and made me sit on the edge of my seat. I was never really interested in basketball until my boyfriend started taking me and explaining the game to me. I am now learning more and more each game, and starting to talk basketball with the boys. I was pretty sure 11 minutes into the 2nd quarter that the other team was going to win... Although I do not like cheering for another team I felt the other team deserved to win. I felt our team was trying to hard today and did not take their time.

EDUCATION IS KEY

This is a video we were shown in class today. I was touched by this video. It is extremely deep, and makes you think. This is my favorite video we have watched in class so far. I feel because he relates school to famous people and real life events is why it is so interesting to me. This video made me wonder if me paying all this money to receive a higher education than high school is even worth it. I have to sit and think why am I in school, who I want to become, and why... I feel every high school student should watch this video to ask their selves is going off to college what they need to succeed in life. Like he says about having no common sense and dead-lines, and late nights... it all adds up to what a graduation that doesn't even come with a 100% chance of getting a job afterwards.

Amen!

FINALLY, we all came to a second topic to agree on. The plan was if we could all come up with a second topic we could agree on then our third topic was our choice. The class at first still could not come up with a topic, we were stuck on sexuality, family, and pop culture. I personally think it would be hard for me to argue about pop culture over family. I am a better writer when it comes to something I can relate to. I know for a fact I could argue about family and the topics under that subject. I also could tell the different feelings from my classmates. I could tell who could and wouldn't feel comfortable doing research on certain topics. I am glad we finally came to the topics of crime punishment, family, and our choice. My third choice will be sexuality or race. I have not decided yet but I will by the end of our first paper. I hope everyone is able to do well on the topics that were picked, I feel like some students were afraid of putting in their input which may hurt them in the end.

In classs this week...

On Monday we met in the library and did a scavenger hunt throughout the library. My group won the challenge. I had to present what we learned to the class. Sweeneys group projects last semester helped me learn to give presentations, and not be afraid to get up in front of the class. On Wednesday  we had a snow day, which was much needed! Then on Friday we sat in the class for 50 minutes trying to decide as a WHOLE class our three topics for our research papers. The only topic we have all agreed on so far is crime punishment. I feel like we will never be able to compromise on three topics. I would like to due  family, race, and crime punishment... but I doubt that will happen.
